About the Artist

Artist Synneva Rutlin focuses on the preservation and continuation of Norway's artistic legacy, as exemplified by rosemaling. From Viking-style ceremonial drinking vessels, to trunks, plates, bowls and Bestefar's Stol -- Grandfather's Chair -- she presents an exploration into a decorative arts tradition that has had a lasting impact into the twentieth century.

Synneva RutlinShe has exhibited throughout the New England area and at The Museum of American Folk Art in New York City, in their presentation of Norwegian Folk Art: Migration of a Tradition, which was part of "Norwegian Visions", a cultural partnership between leading American and Norwegian institutions that ran from 1995 to 1998, traveling internationally.

Synneva Rutlin (her middle and maiden name) also teaches in the public schools. Her teaching career began in 1971 in Chicago's inner city schools, continued in special education in Chicago's suburbs, and is ongoing in New Milford, Connecticut in both special and regular education.
